Board Positions

From events to finance, the WMSSA board is comprised of a team of driven individuals. Each position sees students contributing to the team and to the wider Waikato University community.

Executive Team

President

  • Guide the direction and strategy of the association;

  • Represent WMSSA at events, at the University, and in public.

  • Foster an environment of fun, hard work and forward movement;

  • Ensure that all board members are participating and creating value for Waikato Management students;

  • Ensure Waikato Management Students can derive value from participating in WMSSA events;

  • Ensure the goals and objectives of the association are carried out;

  • Liaise with external sponsors and contacts;

  • Work closely with the Vice Presidents and Treasurer.

  • Attend team meetings and events.

Vice President- Operations

  • Oversee the Events team and Assist, manage, and mediate sub-teams of the WMSSA board;

  • Represent WMSSA at events, at the University, and in public.

  • Fill in and assist sub-teams where needed.

  • Step up if the President is unavailable.

  • Assist the President with strategic decision-making.

  • Ensure event deadlines are met.

  • Assist with the execution of all events

  • Attend team meetings and events.

Vice President- Governance 

  • Assist, manage, and mediate sub-teams of the WMSSA board;

  • Represent WMSSA at events, at the University, and in public;

  • Fill in and assist sub-teams where needed;

  • Step up if the President is unavailable;

  • Assist the President with strategic decision-making;

  • Take minutes at team meetings and distribute actions promptly;

  • Manage the marketing calendar;

  • Schedule social contact through Meta; and

  • Attend team meetings and events.

Treasurer

  • Oversee and present budgets, accounts, and financial statements to the board for new or ongoing work;

  • Work closely with the President and Vice Presidents;

  • Liaise with designated staff regarding financial matters;

  • Ensure that appropriate financial systems and controls are in place;

  • Advise on the financial implications of strategic and operational plans;

  • Present revised financial forecasts based on actual spending;

  • Ensure proper records are kept;

  • Ensure everyone handling money keeps proper records and documentation; and

  • Attend team meetings and events.

Events Team

Events Manager

  • Plan student-business events;

  • Coordinate the board for event execution;

  • Prepare action plans, debriefs, and reports for the WMSSA team and sponsors;

  • Communicate event plans with the Vice President of Events;

  • Work with the Treasurer on event budgets to meet targets;

  • Collaborate with the Marcomms Manager for event marketing;

  • Identify new student event opportunities;

  • Manage the event calendar; and

  • Attend team meetings and events.

Events Assistant (Two Positions Available)

  • Work closely with the Events Manager to complete tasks as required;

  • Step up if the Event Manager is unavailable;

  • Manage and follow-up tasks and objectives;

  • Write and edit action plants, debriefs and event reports;

  • Ensure smaller tasks are taken care of;

  • Assist with the execution of all events; and

  • Attend team meetings and events.

Marketing & Communications Team

Marketing & Communications Manager

  • Collaborate effectively with the Executive Team, particularly the Vice Presidents of Governance and Events;

  • Mentor the Marcomms Assistants;

  • Promote internal and external events to meet association objectives;

  • Ensure accurate and effective promotion through various marketing channels;

  • Maintain the communications strategy in collaboration with the team; and

  • Attend team meetings and events.

Marketing & Communications Assistant (Two Positions Available)

  • Work closely with the Marcomms Manager to complete tasks as required;

  • Curate engaging content for social and printed media;

  • Step up if the Marcomms Manager is unavailable;

  • Produce all social copy and content to a high industry standard;

  • Contribute to the maintenance of the ongoing branding and communications strategy;

  • Assist the wider team at events to ensure content is generated; and

  • Attend team meetings and events.

Treasury

Assistant Treasurer

  • Report to the Treasurer;

  • Step up as Treasurer if they become unavailable;

  • Ensure smaller tasks are taken care of;

  • Assist with the execution of events; and

  • Attend team meetings and events.
